Taking gardening to a different level with Aquaponics

Pierre Beauchamp uses snails to help maintain the pipes in his aquaponics system. He then uses the snails to feed the fish, where the water from the fish tank recycles into the pipes for his plants, creating a sustainable system for producing plants and vegetables.

Del Oro sophomore Pierre Beauchamp harvests snap peas he grew in his aquaponic greenhouse at his home in Christian Valley. The teen is bringing his sophisticated system to Del Oro High where he one day hopes to supply the school with their own vegetables for the lunch program.

After attending a workshop at University of Nevada, Reno, the teen created his own aquaponic system in his green house. Now Beauchamp will be taking skills to the campus creating a self-sustaining system there.
