Loomis lights up for an Old Fashioned ChristmasBy: Anne Stokes / Loomis News Correspondent
Despite the threat of rain, the Loomis Train Station Depot was filled on Saturday evening with holiday revelers who came to enjoy the town's annual Christmas Tree Lighting. There were plenty of family-friendly activities, including ornament-making, face painting, caroling, and of course a visit from Santa himself. Loomis Mayor Sandra Calvert even made sure to include chestnuts roasting over an open fire.
"You go to Grass Valley and they have their Cornish Christmas, Nevada City has their Victorian Christmas, but there's a lot of commercialism there and a lot of outside vendors," said Mayor Calvert. "I wanted this to be a scaled-down version of an Old Fashioned Christmas where the community comes together and it's all familiar faces."
