Wednesday May 18 2011 comments Amgen Tour of California By: Michael Kirby/Auburn Journal -A +A Riders round a turn and head up Sacramento Street in Old Town. Turning onto Auburn Folsom Road the race started. Spectators got a close up view of Amgen riders as they turned onto Auburn Folsom Road. Each team had it's own brightly colored uniforms. Margareta Swann (L) and Chris Whitehead (R) share a hug at the start of the Breakaway from Cancer mile walk before the start of the race. Swann and Whitehead are both cancer survivors and Swann started the race later. The Thayer family Gavin, Brittany and two-year old Nixon were walking in the Breakaway Cancer Walk Tuesday morning. The walk honors cancer survivors. Placer County Supervisor Jim Holmes mans the grill at the pancake breakfast sponsored by the Auburn Community Cancer Endowment Fund and Auburn Rotary. Auburn's pro rider Chris Jones gets a good luck send off from his mother Cindy. USA Road Champion Ben King signs autographs before the race near the start line.
