Cooler weather allows residential burning

The ban on residential burning has been lifted as of 8 a.m. today, Monday, Nov. 3.

Recent precipitation and cooler weather have allowed Cal Fire to decrease burning restrictions in some areas of Northern California and declare an end to the suspension of all residential burning within state responsibility areas of Placer, Nevada and Yuba counties.

“Fire season is not over yet,” reminded Cal Fire Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit Chief Brad Harris.

“Residents must use caution when burning, follow all guidelines and maintain control of their fire at all times.”

Residents must obtain a valid burn permit. In Loomis, burn permits are available at the Loomis Fire Protection District office on Horseshoe Bar Road and Magnolia Street.

Burning is allowed only on permissive burn days as determined by the local Air Pollution Control District. Call (530) 889-6868.

The following requirements, listed on the burn permit, must be followed:

Maximum pile size 4 foot in diameter.

Clear all flammable material and vegetation within 10-feet of the outer edge of the pile.

Keep a water supply close to the burning site.

An adult should be in attendance with a shovel until the fire is put out.

No burning shall be undertaken unless weather conditions (particularly wind) are such that burning can be considered safe.

Violations of any burning permit terms are a violation of state law. If a fire escapes a homeowner’s control they can be issued a citation and be held liable for suppression costs and damages.
