If, as Bush and McCain claimed, in the 21st century nations don’t invade other nations, what is the U.S. doing in Iraq and Afghanistan?
The success of the Bush Regime’s propaganda, lies, and deception with gullible and inattentive Americans since 9/11 has made it difficult for intelligent, aware people to be optimistic about the future of the United States. For almost 8 years the U.S. media has served as Ministry of Propaganda for a war criminal regime.
Americans who are incapable of thinking for themselves or accessing foreign media on the Internet have been successfully duped. As Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels said, it is easy to deceive a people. You just tell them they have been attacked and wave the flag. It certainly worked on post-9-11 America.
The gullibility and unconcern of the American people has had millions of victims.
There are 1.25 million dead Iraqis. There are 4 million displaced Iraqis. No one knows how many are maimed, crippled and orphaned. Neocon propaganda has been so successful that even the opposition has not lifted a finger to rein in the Bush regime. Even Obama, who promises “change” is too intimidated by the neocon’s success to do what his supporters hoped he would do and lead us out of the pit into which the neoconned Bush regime has dumped us.
The American media has again accommodated the Bush Reich and proclaimed a “Russian invasion” to cover up the ethnic cleansing of Russians in South Ossetia by the American-triggered Georgian military assault. But this time, the rest of the world didn’t buy it.
The many years of lies -- 9/11, WMDs, al Qaeda connections, yellowcake, bringing freedom, anthrax attack, Iranian nukes, “the United States doesn’t torture,” the bombings of various weddings, picnics, funerals and children’s soccer games, Abu Ghraib, renditions, Guantanamo, various fabricated “terrorist plots,” the determined assault on civil liberties at home -- have taken their toll on American credibility. No one outside America any longer believes the US media or the US government.
The rest of the world reported the facts; an assault on Russian civilians by American equipped and Israeli trained Georgian troops. The Bush Regime, overcome by hubris, expected Russia to accept this act of American hegemony. But the Russians did not, and the Georgian military was sent fleeing for its life. The Russians called our bluff. The neoconned Republican response to the Russians' failure to follow our script and to be intimidated by the "last standing Superpower” was so childishly silly that it broke through the delusion to which Americans had succumbed.
McCain declared: “In the 21st century nations don’t invade other nations.” And Jon Stewart got plenty of laughs out of this on the Daily Show. In the early years of the 21st century the United States has already invaded two countries and has been beating the drums for attacking a third. President Bush, the Invader-in-Chief , echoed McCain’s claim that "nations don’t invade other nations." Everybody had a good laugh and then went back to work.
The Ukraine, where a sick nationalism has taken hold, (funded by the neocon National Endowment for Democracy) will be the next conflict between American pretensions and Russia. Russia is being taught by the neocons that the parts of the Russian Empire it freed, are not independent, but have been absorbed into the American Empire.
Unless enough Americans can overcome their delusional state and the hacked Diebold touch screens, turn out the Republicans and hold the neocons accountable for their crimes against humanity, a crazed neocon U.S. government will provoke a nuclear war with Russia. Whikle the Democrats and Republicans snap at each other, the neocons become the greatest danger ever faced by the world. Humanity itself has no greater enemy.

Wow! And someone thought my post on Obama was over the top. What should we call this blog?
Loomis: What is wrong with this blog?
It very accurately reflects the perspective of Charlie Brown and Obama supporters in Placer County.
The average voter is being told that Charlie is a moderate, and Obama is not that liberal, yet their advocates are so far left that they are not even on this planet.
It provides clarity to the general reader so they can realize that should they vote for Charlie Brown or Obama, this is the kind of people that will be celebrating.
Enough about Mssrs. Brown and Obama. Do you care to rebut my argument with facts of your own?
I believe your President said "democratically elected" governments. Furthermore, there were numerous UN resolutions against Iraq which their dictator ignored. Comparing Georgia and Iraq is intellectually deficient. The rest is just laughable.
How about calling it the truth? The danger is to all Americans regardless of political affiliation.
The whole world sees what's going on and we prefer to be not only blind but also deaf and dumb. Our silence speaks volumes and the result is America's loss of credibility and respect.
Sorry, your rant is many things: opinion, perspective, lunacy, but the truth it is not...
This is not a post promoting Democrats, or any candidate, why why why are so many of you so mind locked on combativeness that you can't see this? I don't understand, I really don't, because the information is there, you just refuse to let it in and you refuse to investigate. There are numerous arguments in this post, you can look them up yourself, but you can't even summon just a little curiousity to do that? If you don't think this information is correct, then say why, instead all I see are the same tired smug little put downs and denials, like if you just keep saying them often enough they will become the truth. Why won't you discuss the points in the post? You think Georgia and Iraq can't compare, but I don't see why you believe that in your response. Let me help you out, I'll ask some questions, I'd really like to hear what your version is, because I'm suspecting a lot of revisionist history.
How much do you know about the history of our involvement with Iraq? Please, enlighten me, start with how Saddam came into power in the first place, who sponsored him, and why? Next, enlighten me on who has funded Georgian troops, and who trained them, is it possible we can benefit from this? How much time do you spend on foriegn politics and events? How much are you aware of the neocon agenda, please tell me what you know about their vision? How many members of PNAC hold or have held influential positions in the current administration? I see numerous other issues brought to your attention in the post, pick some of them instead if you like.
You may not agree with all of his points, but NONE OF THEM seem possible to you?? We are all Americans, our political affiliation should be way down the list on what defines us. You are so busy trying to figure out who is to the left and the right of you, that you won't look at what is right in front of your face.
I apologize for the accusatory tone of my comment, people don't want to listen when a person does this, I know. Let me put it in simple terms. When you hear something, look into it. Don't wait for your chosen party to tell you what the facts are, look into it. Utilize the internet, choose neutral news sources, foreign press, and decide for yourself. I have looked into numerous points Republicans have brought up in this forum, and found some truths. You owe it to yourself to find out what the truth is, sometimes you will find out it was as you thought, but sometimes you won't and that is ten times better than believing a lie.
It is sad that there are just a few people in this country with the intelligence to be radical left wingers, those of us in the middle and the radical right are a bunch of stupid, uneducated bozoz that more likely than not inherited our money since we are not capable of supporting ourselves. We believe, without any question what the neo cons and the radical right media tells us and we blindly go to the polls and vote as we are told.
kitty, most people see what they want to see. Unfortunately sometimes our affiliation and loyalty towards a Party or an individual blinds us or worse yet, the combative, insulting tone of some of these letters are more prone to result in a wall being thrown between differing opinions than conducive to reasonable dialogue. Read these posts carefully, when you agree, you're nice, people thank you but the moment you disagree you're a sheeple, a moron an idiot, etc. etc. There will be always differences of opinions, political leanings and even doctrines, we cannot expect everyone to think the same way, it will never happen.
Just a comment on the content of the letter, Thos Payne, as of lately is becoming more and more hateful towards this country and towards any one that doesn't spouse his beliefs, maybe it is due to frustration since he doesn't seem to be convincing anyone, maybe it's just me, but the more I read his blog the more the hatred comes out.
loomisresident - Thank you for your remarks. Although we don't always agree, I respect your indulgence and courtesy.
My posting was intended to point out that we all suffer from the ill-advised decisions made by neocons on both sides of the aisle.
Please permit me to rebut your adolescent accusation of "hateful." Hatred always corrodes the vessel in which it is stored. A Buddhist aphorism says "hating another is like throwing a hot coal at him; in the end you are always the one who gets burned." I am not hateful, but skeptical of politicians because seldom do they have anything but their own interests in mind.
This nation made beautiful promises 232 years ago; but it cannot continue to grow and improve by resting on its achievements, only through admitting and rectifying its shortcomings.
I love this nation above all others; exactly for this reason I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.
(FYI, it's "espouse," not "spouse")
Thomas Payne,
You are deluging the Lunatics with facts and reality so expect to be called names and derided because the Right cannot refute the truth ... but they will attack you in the Swift Boat tradition. Truth is something the Right cannot deal with straight on.
Please keep telling the truth and the truth will prevail.
I smell an October surprise. A nuclear war? It is in the best interest of the current administration.
LR you have been moving father to the right than you think. Our government prodded Georgia into their ill fated attack by promising support against Russia. Our government set up Saddam Hussein in his role as a dictator as we have done many times all over the world. When despots become inconvenient to us we take them out. The CIA is a criminal enterprise that has only one goal and that is keeping their mission secret as they wreak havoc on an unsuspecting world. They are total tools and we are total fools. America can be the greatest country in the world but there is a fierce stance against giving back to the people. If we act civilized, then and only then, can we stand tall and proud and not be the bully's the rest of the world thinks sees. There is a great evil that lurks in Washington. I have heard that public schools are a communist plot. That universal health care is a communist plot. That providing food and shelter to even the most needy is a communist plot. If so why do we lay in the same bed with China.
They need to dust off the Soviet Bear cause the other enemies that they created aren't scary enough.
loomisres - you misunderstand me, I don't think it is a lack of intelligence, I think it is apathy and denial. If I'm coming across like I'm thinking I'm smarter than anyone else, I apologize and I don't feel that way at all, I mean it, my lack of formal education has to have made itself clear by now.
In fact, I feel frustrated because I'd love to see someone write something with some facts to show that I'm wrong to believe it is exactly as spelled out here. Then I wouldn't have to worry so much! Instead, its all name calling and people trying to blow it off as crazy talk, or nitpicking the minutiae irrelevant details. I don't expect everyone to agree, but I keep hoping the reason they don't will become more evident by facts as they see them posted in their comments. Please, explain to me why it isn't true, because I'm not finding that information on my own. It is not even a dislike for all things Republican for my part, its directed at neocons, a fringe yet powerful element of the Republican party. I think that both parties have people that believe what they are told by corporate media and blindly go to the polls. It is hard to believe, however, that anyone that has taken the time to investigate and research the neoconservative's agenda and implementation of that agenda wouldn't be screaming from the rooftops to get the traitors out!!! Give them a fair trial!!! Instead, silence, or sympathy and defense of their actions. What has to happen, what must take place, before people would believe, if even then?! Nuclear War? Martial Law declared, cancellation of the election?? Extreme worries, I know, please tell me why I don't need to worry for my son.
I realize this makes me seem like a radical left winger, except that I think a majority of both parties are on the same page, so I'm not sure where I fit anymore. There are a few Democrats and Republicans who have fought this, some third party members try to speak out, but a good job has been done of silencing them. So instead I look to the American people to rectify this situation, and all I find is that no one cares.
kittyv, have you read "Animal Farm" by Orwell? It doesn't just apply to the commies as some would have one believe. The example of the rules being changed to the benefit of a few doesn't go unnoticed. Because it is so gradual, most don't recognize they are doomed until it is far too late.
You claim the lack of a formal education yet you have great insight and posses a profound understanding of key issues. Have faith that our young, (I have a 13 year old) are too smart to fall for the hype and the fear of others, that leads to isolationism and eventually World War. They know that there are other children out there that need a break and face uncertainty about the future. This is more acute in the Sudan, Afghanistan, Cambodia and the the third world in general.
Our children don't live in a world where, if they have an opportunity to go to school, don't know if their homes or families will be there when they return. For the most part they have more than enough to eat here. Our children have no voice, but if they did I'm sure they would share the bounty.
America may not be the savior of the world, but we could lead by example, if only we choose to do so. As our population ages we become less able to change, less able to adapt to new ideas. Staying the course, sticking to our guns, what ever it is called, shows a lack of growth and that in turn leads to stagnation, which is never a good thing.
chunga___ How soon we forget. We're simply doing what we always do, handing over US foreign policy to the CIA.
In the aftermath of 9-11 Usama bin Laden, a wealthy CIA-trained and equipped mujahadin “freedom fighter” suddenly became "the patsy", a “terrorist mastermind” and an “evil-doer”. But the US government refuses to admit its central role in creating bin Laden, the Taliban, and the anti-American Islamic fundamentalist terrorists that now infest the Middle East. The mass media has collaborated in downplaying the origins of al-Queda, bin Laden and the nationalist brand of Islamic fundamentalism.
In April 1978, the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) seized power in Afghanistan in reaction to a brutal crackdown by that country's repressive leadership. The PDPA was committed to a radical land reform that favored the peasants, trade union rights, an expansion of universal education and social services, free press, equality for women and the separation of mosque and state.
Washington, fearing the spread of communist influence throughout the region - and worse, the new government's reformist example - to Pakistan, Iran and the Gulf states,
offered US support to the Afghan mujaheddin, a.k.a. the Taliban. In 1986 CIA chief William Casey committed American support to recruiting and training mujahadin from around the world to join the Afghan jihad. At least 100,000 Islamic militants flocked to Pakistan between 1982 and 1992. Usama bin Laden was installed as the CIA's chief recruiter for mujahadin.
The Soviet Union withdrew from Afghanistan in 1989 and the mujaheddin Taliban captured the capital, Kabul, in 1992.
Between 1978 and 1992, the US government poured from US$6 billion to $20 billion worth of arms, training and funds to prop up the Taliban. Oil-rich Saudi Arabia kicked in as much again. Wealthy Arab fanatics, like Osama bin Laden, provided millions more.
Washington's policy in Afghanistan was shaped by US President Jimmy Carter's national security advisor, Zbigniew Brzezinski, whose plan went far beyond simply forcing Soviet troops to withdraw from Afghanistan; it fostered Islamic fanaticism in the Muslim Central Asian Soviet Republics to destabilize the Soviet Union. What we now have In Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the other oil republics, is classic CIA "Blowback."
chunga - thank you for your response. I agree with you on having faith in our young, and I agree that their ability to see humanity in the broader sense is better than most adults. I fear what they will have to contend with in the near future, and in their adulthood. At the same time, I believe it may be them that find the solutions, as much as I wish they didn't have that burden.
