Do Nothing Democrat Congress and Oil Prices

Democrats Want Oil Prices High

Has anyone else noticed that since the Democrats took over the Congress in 2006, the price of oil has been rapidly increasing?

The Democrats are puppets of the extreme environmental lobby, and are now in a position where they refuse to rescind that resolution even when faced with the skyrocketing price of oil.

In the minds of the environmental lobby, high gasoline prices are a two-fold benefit. One, it leads to a reduction in use and thereby reduces greenhouse gases. Two, as the price of gasoline goes up, taxes on the sale of gasoline goes up and they can use those tax dollars to fund a larger environmental regulation agency.

"Let them use cake", suggests Nancy Pelosi, when asked what people will fill their tanks with.

Ms. Pelosi, who is now House speaker, can prevent a vote on expanded drilling from reaching the floor.

And she and Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leader, appear intent on holding the line against calls to approve drilling in areas now off limits. They argue that the oil and gas industry is not aggressively exploring large (empty) expanses it has already leased on land and offshore. They have also urged Mr. Bush to pour some fuel from national reserves into the commercial supply chain in an effort to lower prices.

Taking fuel from the reserves would only make things worse. It would lower our strategic supply making us more dependent on foreign oil in the long run.

This week, President Bush rescinded the executive order banning offshore drilling and the price of oil has dropped by $18 dollars a barrel in three days.

Pelosi, by refusing to allow a vote on the floor of the House, and Harry Reid by refusing to allow a vote in the Senate, are stopping our nation from a critical message to oil futures speculators that we will achieve independence from foreign oil.

Our environment is in such need of help. We Americans need to help protect our earth & all of our natural resources. I want my great grandchildren to see what I see & enjoy all of this earths great wonders. We need to find a better way........

Don't kid yourselves, our present day republicans and democrats are the two wings of the same bird of prey. The leaders of both parties have sold us out to the globalist elite who seek to destroy our freedom and our republic.

greenfloyd, thanks for the links.

Repeat this so you get it: "We cannot drill our way back to low cost gasoline." There is not and from now on, there never will be enough oil to supply the worldwide demand; therefore, we must find alternatives to the energy oil provides. The current President and Vice-President don't have this as an agenda item and indeed go out of their way to avoid truly addressing the problem. They talk about the need for solutions; but, don't seriously try to solve the problem. The next President will have this problem on his plate, among trying to repair the damage caused by Bush's fail presidency.

Our alternative energy problems could be solved by a concerted effort by the government if they all decided to support and fund a Manhattan type project. The reason they have not done this is because the system in Washington is keyed to do what is best for our largest industries, not what is needed by the American people.

I recommend we seriously consider voting out the present office holders, no matter the party, and replace them with new politicians not chained to the rotten lobbyist system current running our federal government.

Bullwinkle, I get it.....LOL

Seriously, do you EVER get tired of hearing your self talk? Or reading what you write, or well, whatever, you get the point.

Springer3;

This is not about *only* drilling for oil.

The real solution is to send a clear message that we are going to be energy independent.

Domestic oil, gas, wind, hydro, nuclear *AND* increased efficiency are the answer.

When we send that message to the futures traders, the price of oil will drop like a rock because they will see our demand for oil going down.

Bush declared the moratorium on offshore oil reserves was cancelled, THREE DAYS LATER we see a $17 drop in the price of a barrel.

Speculators will sell off at the highest price they can if they think that the USA is going to open up its oil reserves and reach independence.

This is not a supply and demand issue, its a speculation issue.

It's a criminal issue. We need to send a message to Washington and it's coming when Obama gets elected. Things will be different and Rat_Tinkle will implode.

chunga; Southwest Airlines "speculated" on the price of oil and bought millions of barrels at $50/barrel.

Now, they are able to provide a reasonable price on tickets while the other airlines are forced to pay higher prices.

Its too easy to blame capitalism for everything that goes wrong.

I agree that the speculators are causing the increase in prices, but we can drive them into bankruptcy by simply undermining their bets. By opening up our offshore and Alaskan oil reserves, and developing our alternatives, and increasing our efficiency, their bets go bust.

Quit jumping immediately to the government to save you. It was the government that spawned this problem by getting in the way.

What nonsense. Oil industry analysts have been predicting for months that oil prices in 2008 would peak in June or July. Prices peaked in July. What's the news here?

Say no to the NWO. We need to seriously start using renewable energy. We also need to legalize the use of industrial hemp, due to its benifits of being converted into alternative energy.

rat_troller is just kidding. LOL he's sooo funny! nobody in their right mind would think that just because the democrats hold a recent slim majority (but does not hold enough to get 2/3rds vote, override vetoes, etc. etc.) that they are in absolute control of the house or senate.

after the GOP took control of congress in 1995, and then had the backing of the republican white house for the last 7 1/2 years... and with this many years of republican control of central government... it is absolutely, utterly ludicrous to lay blame on democrats for much after only a year and a half of a slight majority that they can't overcome filibusters, etc.

and that is why it is laugh out loud funny to hear rat_troller's comments... makes as much sense as anything else he trolls about... none at all. LOL

any republican or democrat (and i don't look toward either as some pristine, wonderful political party) with any slight sense of responsible judgment with the facts laid in front of them would point toward the republican party for most all that is bad with this country right now (though I tend to shy away from absolutes such as this statement, but gosh golly gee whiz, the finger distinctly points at the GOP for this mess). time to buck up and be accountable, conservative peoples, and move up to being in the here and now. it's my children's and grandchildren's future we're messing with.

wronger; You are really getting pathetic. To claim the Democrats hold a slim majority and thus do not have control...as an EXCUSE...sheesh!

Pelosi has said that she does not want to release the coastal drilling ban and will not put it up for a vote because she is in the MINORITY. There are enough Democrats to override her will that she will not put it up for a vote.

The majority of Americans want to open up ANWR and the coastal reserves.

I am not arguing that this is the only thing we should do, but the evidence is pretty strong that if our government were to increase domestic supplies, the price would drop back down.

It will take ten years before any oil from ANWR reaches the market. Since the US has only 3% of the world’s oil reserves, and since the oil from ANWR is sold on the global market, it will have little effect on future oil prices and none for the next ten years.

Maybe I should support the idea of drilling in ANWAR because it would get you cornucopian right-wing nut cases to finally shut up about it... before you discover that it contains less than half a year's oil supply for the US at current rates of use.

wronger; You are not putting on your listening ears. Its not about SUPPLY. Its about speculation that we are going in the wrong direction.

When Bush acted, the price of oil dropped $17/barrel in three days.

If Congress acted, the price would drop back to where it was before the speculators started. Many of them will get their money, some will lose, but the price will stabilize.

Now, once that has happened, we either TRULY move to energy independence, or the price will rise and continue to rise. We have to increase our domestic supply and increase our efficiency and do it with a strategy that is ongoing.

The Democrats are against this. They are the puppets of the environmental wackos who only want to decrease consumption.

Attention new visitors to the Auburn Journal online.

I recommend that you do not disagree with Rational_Thinker. You will soon find yourself in a bizarre alternate world where facts are fantasy and right is wrong.

Instead, simply post a note telling him he is the best thing since canned beer or sliced bread.

Without controversy he will wither and disappear. And that would be a very good thing.

This is all about greed and will be the downfall of the world society as we know it...unless something is done about it! You have not seen world wars like the ones that are coming if this situation does not turn around very quickly. An angry planet is a planet doomed to be destroyed by those that want to control it.

Why is it that the Democrats are only for conservation, while the Republicans are for increasing supply AND conservation?

This is an important question because it belies our problem.

The Democrats have created the problem by pretending that demand does not go up over time. Conservation cannot keep up with demand.

We either have to reduce consumption per capita and increase supply simultaneously, or we will be behind the supply/demand curve and prices will skyrocket. This is what drove speculators to buy, buy, buy and the only thing that will get them to sell is when they see that we are going to increase our supply and reduce our consumption (BOTH)
