Sorry Bill.. The Democrats in this town have already expressed their disdain for a "serial candidate" and since you have run for virtually every office within 100 miles, that qualifies you as a candidate for their disdain.
I have been very gratified by the overwhelming support and positive response I have received from many community leaders. The City and City Council is functioning very well and I have the time, interest and committment to serve. I am also available for this non-partisan position and in the phone book if you would like to discuss any of the issues facing our wonderful community. My number again is as above 885224.

Good luck Bill, I know of many who are planning to vote for you. Just promise me that if you win, you won't waste money trying to get Roseville and Rocklin residents to drive up the hill to shop. It makes no sense to waste tax dollars trying to lure people to an area that doesn't have anything to offer in the way of shopping. Dining out, yes, tourism, yes. Other than that, not so much.
Thank you for you words of support. Last night (Saturday), I rode my Harley into town and went to two restaurants. Then we wandered throught the Old Town Gallery (which always seems to be open with great gifts), and bought some presents for my daughters birthday at Serendipity (which was still open at 8pm). Auburn can be a wonderful place to spend an afternoon or eveing relaxing dining and shopping in lower town or uptown. Our community has great potential. Auburn residents can save gas and time if they shop Auburn first for the things that Auburn has to offer.
Hey Bill: How do you feel about Costco, Home Depot, Best Buy etc. coming to Auburn?
The county has been actively courting these stores. Home Depot is on county land and Best buy is going in at Bell and highway 49 in the county. Stores in the county do not gererate tax revenue to the city. It will be a challenge for Auburn to maintain our historic and unique nature with these stores arriving in our community. It is a challenge we can and will meet. Folsom has a vibrant hisoric district in spite of the outlet mall a few miles away. The Auburn City's streetscape program whuch will begin later this year from redevelopment funds will help revitalize Auburn. As for myself, I have been actively involved in Rotary's "Project Auburn" which has been working hard to help make our city more attractive. This year "Project Auburn" helped restore the Sate Theater area and a few years ago we gave a facelift to lower town. Auburn is a crossroads and these large retailers see an opportunity here. It is our responsibilty to make our downtown areas attractive and vibrant to attract the dining, tourism and shopping dollars we can. What are your views on the changing enviornment in the area and how we can best meet them?
Bill
We do need to maintain our history, but how do you feel about big box stores moving here?
They are already here. That is the reality. In many ways I I wish things were as they were 30 years ago when I moved here. But but the clock cannot be turned back. We need to develope a strategy much as I have suggested above to confront these new problems. Just as we have to develope strategies to deal with our changing population. What ideas or suggestions do you have to deal with these issues?
Bill
Bill, in uptown most establishments have limited hours on the weekend if they are open at all.
I have seen many senoirs that come with their adult children, perhaps to rekindle a fond memory of Auburn, struggle up the street in the hot summer days not able to find respite unless they choose to go into a bar which is a non option for some.
What can be done to attract more tourist to what is basically a ghost town?
What do you think are posisible solutions? I agree it is a problem. In lower town Serendipity and the Old Town Gallery are open later. Hopefully the streetscape renovation will make the area more attractive for people to stay downtown in the evening dining and shopping. We have excellent restaurants and wine bars in both lower and uptown. Perhaps on slected evenings the Chamber along with the Business Associations and the City can partner to put on free events (such as the State Theater Illumination Party) or minstrels that would attract more people in the evening . On these evenings we could actively solict business to stay open. The Art Walks are good examples. It will take a community effort but will be worth it and hopefully entice people to congregrate and business to stay open.
Any other ideas?
Thanks Bill
