Placer Elementary School students in grades six, seven and eight joined forces last week to run their own version of the Iditarod in a competition that had students acting as mushers, timers and sled dogs. Students in Bill Bunch's eighth-grade class read CALL OF THE WILD and WHITE FANG, participated in an assembly about dog sleds, and used donated wood to build their own sleds for the big race. Bunch incorporated math, science, history, language arts and the principals of friction and distance into the Iditarod program.
