Volleyball roundup: Placer, Del Oro earn wins in different fashion

Raquel Quirarte had 10 kills and six aces and Kellyn McDonald added nine kills, as the Placer High School girls volleyball team swept Whitney at home Thursday, 25-18, 25-9, 25-17.

Lauren Collins chipped in with eight kills and Kirstin Schauble recorded 24 assists for the Lady Hillmen, who improved to 5-0.

Coach Jennifer Wright was happy to be able to get everybody game-time experience and keep the game short.

“We were able to keep our momentum, which was really nice,” she said.

Placer hosts Rocklin at home on Monday at 6 p.m.

Del Oro 3, El Dorado 2 — The Golden Eagles almost had a long ride home from Placerville Thursday, but were able to rally in a character-building game and win in five sets, 24-26, 21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 15-12. Morgan Lees had a team-high 19 kills and Stephanie Solich (12 kills), Stephanie Geyer (six kills), Amy Heyn (38 assists, seven aces) and Summer Shell (27 digs) all contributed to the victory for the Golden Eagles (12-4), who next play Tuesday at Bella Vista at 6:30 p.m.
