Uhler, Branum gain Div. II championships

Del Oro crowned a pair of CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II champion wrestlers at last weekend’s divisional meet held at Johnson High in Sacramento. At 140 pounds, Austin Branum garnered first place by defeating Rocklin’s Shane Keefe, 18-5, in the championship match. Del Oro’s other top finish came from Jake Uhler in the 171-pound weight class as he pinned Roseville’s Austin Finerty in the finals. Also faring well for Del Oro and moving on to this weekend’s CIF Masters Tournament in Stockton were Kevin Burrage who placed second in the 152-pound bracket, Isaac Blackbrun (103) and Patrick Neu (135) who were both fourth place finishers, Kevin Love who was 6th at 189 pounds, and 215 pounder Tanner Woods, a freshman, who placed 7th. At the recent SFL championships held in Rocklin, the Golden Eagles made a steady stream to the podium to collect first place gold medals. At 140 pounds, Austin Branum defeated Shane Keith of Rocklin for the title. Kevin Burrage edged Granite Bay’s Adam Wagner 7-5 to win the 152-pound championship. Foster Fretland had a pin at 160 in the finals and Jake Uhler won by pin in his final at 171. Freshman Tanner Woods made it to the title match at 215 before falling to Rocklin’s Joey Ramos. Danny Jacoshenk placed third at 125 and Patrick Neu was third at 135 for the Eagles. Isaac Blackburn wrestled to fourth at 103 and Kevin Love placed fourth at 189. Placing fifth and earning alternate spots to the divisional championships were Connor Van Liew (112), Ryan Huntsinger (119), and Brendon Montoya (130). ~ Staff report
