Top high school tennis stars converge on Johnson Ranch

The top singles and doubles players in the Sac-Joaquin Section are competing in the Sac-Joaquin Division II Sectional varsity men’s tennis championships at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club Thursday and Friday. Two singles players and two doubles teams; the champions and finalists at each of the league tournaments, from each of seven SJS leagues are vying for individual section singles and doubles titles. Qualifying players from the Sierra Foothill League will battle it out with the best from the Metro League, Capital Athletic League, Sierra Valley Conference, Tri-County Conference, Valley oak League and the Solano County Athletic Conference. Local high school standouts and highly ranked USTA NorCal players Brett Bacharach (Del Oro), Kyle Coates (Oakmont), Tanner Schmutte (Oak Ridge), Wyatt Brown (Rio Americano) and Aaron Goldwyn (Rio Americano) will be among the players competing for the singles title. The early rounds begin at noon Thursday, with the finals set for an 11 a.m. start Friday at Johnson Ranch in Roseville. The public is invited to attend. There is no charge for admission.
