One poor shooting quarter doomed the Del Oro boys basketball team last Saturday in the finals of the Titan Classic tournament played at Antelope High.
Meeting the host Titans in the finals, the Golden Eagles stayed with the athletic Antelope’s squad for a half before the Titans pulled away in the second half for a 60-44 win.
Del Oro initially kept the game close as the Black and Gold trailed just 31-25 at intermission. But the tide of the game started to turn in the third quarter when Antelope outscored the Golden Eagles, 14-6.
Leading Del Oro in the finals were Trevor Pistochini and Keenan Finney, each with 10 points, Collin Mitchell with six points and Connor Drake with five.
Del Oro opened the tournament with a 62-32 romp over Edison of Stockton. The Golden Eagles built a 36-15 lead by intermission and were never threatened in the second half.
Pistochini’s 22 markers, 13 from Finney, 11 by Becker and eight and six respectively from Jack Huizenga and Ryan Takayama led the win.
In the semi-finals, Del Oro showed fine scoring balance in their 64-50 win over Kennedy as Finney tallied 18 points. He had plenty of help from Michael Moore with 13, Pistochici with nine and Drake and Huizenga with seven points each.
Del Oro plays Friday at Bella Vista at 7 p.m., then will compete Dec. 27-29 in the Whitney Christmas Classic.
