Stephens Runs Well At Stanford

Del Oro’s Trevor Stephens ran well at last Saturday’s prestigious Stanford Cross Country Invitational, which attracted scores of runners and teams from all over California. Stephens, a junior, competed in the 5,000-meter boys Div. III varsity race and placed a respectable 32nd with a time of 16:12. Earlier, Stephens captured first place in the varsity small school race held at the Nevada Union Invitational, in Grass Valley. Stephens’ time over the 3-mile course was 16:21. Del Oro’s other top varsity runner at Nevada Union was senior Sam Baker who took 14th place in 17:22. The top girls varsity runner at NU was Alexa Lua, who covered the 3-mile course in 19:59. In the JV division, Del Oro’s boys were led by Austin Smith (19:21), who was ninth, Blake Dupriest (19:31), who took 15th and Brad Whaler (19:36), who placed 18th. Del Oro’s girls JV runners also had a strong showing as Sydney Proiette was second in 22:18. She was followed in by Anna Paraskevopoulos, who took sixth in 23:19. In the frosh-soph ranks, Brent Giles took fourth for the boys in 18:39, while Ashley Dessert was seventh in the girls in 21:40, and teammate Maddy Montgomery eighth in 21:49. ~ Staff report
