It’s getting down to crunch time in the Sierra Foothill League girls volleyball chase as teams are trying to use a late season push to secure a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoff berth.
For the Del Oro Lady Eagles, their trip to the post season hinged on Tuesday’s final Sierra Foothill League match of the season when the Black and Gold played host to Roseville.
Entering this week, the Lady Eagles were lodged in third place in the SFL ranks behind Granite Bay and Rocklin. Del Oro played Granite Bay on Monday and would probably need to hold off Roseville Tuesday for the final SFL playoff spot. The top three teams from the league advance to the playoffs.
In last Thursday’s road match at Grass Valley against Nevada Union, coach Stuart Kageta’s Lady Eagles overcame some injuries and illness to pull out a scintillating five-set win over the Miners.
With Morgan Lees accounting for 18 kills, Del Oro pulled out a wild 23-25, 17-25, 27-25, 25-23, 15-11 marathon over the Miners.
Following Lees with strong offensive efforts at the net were Alex Lolland, Sabrina Burri, Brooke Simmons and Lida Landre. Stephanie Solich contributed 13 serving points and Amy Heyn registered 32 assists.
The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs will open Friday at home sites. The brackets for all divisions will be released on Thursday at www.cifsjs.org.
