Del Oro’s Austin Smotherman advanced to the second round of Northern California Golf Association Jr. Championship by shooting rounds of 76 and 77 at Spyglass Hill on Monday. Smotherman, with a total of 155 after 36 holes, is competing in the Boys 14-15 age group along with top golfers from throughout Northern California. Michael Decker (Pebble Beach) leads the Boys 14-15 division at one-under-par 143 after posting rounds of 73-70. Bryson Dechambeau (Clovis) is in second place at one-over-par after carding a morning round of three-under 69, while Jonathon Delosreyes (Antioch) is in third at four-over-par 148. Hannah Suh leads the Girls flight with an even-par 73. Suh leads by two strokes over five players. Paige Lee (Folsom), Alexandra Sborov (Pleasanton), Kortnie Maxoutopoulis (Pleasanton), Lauren Salazar (Santa Clara) and Haley Andreas (Pacific Grove) are all tied in second at two-over-par 75. In the Boys 12-13 flight, Lin Owen leads with a one-over-par 73. Connor Blick is in second at three-over 75, while Harrison Hsieh is in third place with 77. Dylan Smith (San Francisco) leads the Boys 16-18 flight with a pair of three-under-par 69s. Smith birdied four of the final five holes in the afternoon round to take a five stroke lead over his division. Michael Weaver (Fresno) is second at one-under-par 143 with 71-72, while Justin Haley (San Ramon) fired a 69 in the second round to move up to third with Foster City’s Dalan Refioglu at even-par 144. The 14-15 boys and 16-18 boys play 54 holes, with half the field cut for the final 18 holes on Tuesday. The boys 12-13 and girls divisions play 36 holes with no cut. The top 10 boys in the 14-18 age group, and the top three girls, win performance-based entries into AJGA events. The overall boys champion gains an exemption into the 2010 CGA State Amateur Championship.
