SIERRA SCENE: Del Oro girls basketball camp this week

The Del Oro High girls basketball program will host a camp for girls headed into third through 10th grade next week at Del Oro. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon for third through seventh graders and from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. for eighth through 10th graders. Cost is $75 per camper and includes a Del Oro back bag, instruction, daily refreshments, snacks and a t-shirt. The Golden Eagle coaching staff along with current and former players will serve as camp counselors. For more information, contact coach Mike Takayama at (916) 607-1497. Free basketball clinic June 24 All Placer and Nevada County homeschool students entering seventh through ninth grades are invited to a free basketball clinic June 24 at Colfax Elementary School. The clinic will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 and will cover basketball fundamentals. It will also feature games and contests. Registration is limited to the first 30 students to sign up. Colfax soccer camp begins Monday The Colfax High boys soccer program will host a camp for boys and girls ages 10 and up beginning June 22. The camp will run Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon each day at Colfax High. Cost is $70 and sibling discounts are available. Running group hits the trail The popular Thursday night running group is again hitting the trail this summer. Training sessions will take place each week throughout the summer, beginning at 6 p.m. each Thursday. The training is open to eighth graders through college students. Runs will vary in length from four miles to eight miles. The group will use the trails in the American River Canyon. The training sessions are free and open to all levels of runners. The fundraiser for the Placer cross country team is open to eighth graders through seniors. There will be many guest speakers, including nine-time collegiate All-American Maris Avendano and nutritionalist Mary Coordt. There will be two runs each day, a catered lunch and t-shirts for all participants. The cost is $125 and the camp is limited to 60 participants. First Baptist’s sports camps start up Monday at Skyridge School First Baptist Church of Auburn will host a sports camp June 22-26 at Skyridge School. The camp is for kids going into first through sixth grades and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 each day. Participants will receive training in soccer and basketball as well as biblical training for living. Cost is $20 per child with family discounts for additional children. Soccer in the Sierras family tournament rescheduled for July The inaugural Soccer in the Sierras Family Classic is set for July 18-19 at Railhead Park in Auburn. The tournament will feature three divisions of 6-on-6 youth teams and five divisions of adult 7-on-7 teams. The event is designed for parents to play alongside their children in competitive and non-competitive fields. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit local soccer organizations.
