Sierra Rugby Club to hold free clinic

Over 80 players attended two recent Sierra Foothills Rugby Club "Learn to Play Rugby" clinics held in Penryn. Th recruits ranged from 5th grade youth through seniors in high school. One more Sierra Foothills Rugby Clinic is set for Saturday, Dec. 13, at Magnolia Middle School, sponsored by the Bear River Recreation and Park district. Regular club practice for all teams in the youth, junior and senior leagues are at 3:30 p.m., after school, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the LDS sports complex in Penryn. Practice continues through April 2009. The first games are slated with the kick-off tournament Feb. 9 and 10 at Granite Regional Park in Sacramento and will continue through early May 2009. Last season, the Sierra Rugby Club won almost 50 percent of their games in the Sacramento Valley High School Rugby Conference and made a tour part way through the season to Buenos Aries, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay.
