Thanks to an alert resident, two burglars were caught in the act of stripping pipes inside a foreclosed home by Placer County Sheriff’s Office deputies Wednesday night in Loomis.

A resident called 911 at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday to report a suspicious vehicle parked in front of a residence on the 5300 block of Old Moss Road, where there had been previous incidents of vandalism. Deputies arrived to find the vehicle parked in front of the home and there was light emitting from flashlights inside, according to a press release issued Thursday afternoon by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Daniel Paul Loredo, 37, and Rose T. Herzog, 53, both from the Sacramento area, were taken into custody as they exited the back door of the home. Loredo had plumbing fittings in his pocket, along with a glass meth pipe. Herzog had meth hidden in her clothing.

A real estate agent met with deputies and confirmed that the items found on Loredo had been removed from fixtures throughout the house, and damage was estimated to be at least $5,000.

As of Thursday afternoon Loredo and Herzog are being held at the Placer County Jail. Herzog was booked on charges of burglary, conspiracy, possession, transportation and being under the influence of a controlled substance and driving under the influence. Loredo was booked on charges of burglary, conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia. Loredo’s bail is set at $80,000 and Herzog’s at $70,000.
