Del Oro High School’s football teams — varsity, JV and frosh — have started pointing their football drills toward this week’s scrimmage action set for Thursday, Sept. 4, and Saturday, Sept. 6, with Oak Ridge and Casa Roble, respectively. With the season opener just a week away for all three Golden Eagle squads, Del Oro’s grid coaches will be looking at the first-time full contact action against an opponent other than themselves to help solidify their line-ups. Del Oro ‘s JVs, frosh and varsity will host Oak Ridge Thursday night at Eagle Stadium with the two lower levels taking on the Trojans at 5:30 p.m. before the varsity squads tangle at 7:30 p.m. The same schedule set-up is slated for Saturday when Casa Roble visits Loomis. Del Oro’s varsity is focusing its work on the season opener set for Sept. 13 in Pocatello, Idaho against Lake City of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. The game is being played as part of the “Rocky Mountain Rumble,” a four contest showcase being played between California and Idaho schools. Lake City began its season last Friday with a 30-26 win over northern Idaho rival Sandpoint. This Friday the Lake City squad goes after its second win when it hosts Lewis & Clark from Spokane, Wash. As previously announced, Comcast Sports West, from a feed from the Altitude satellite channel, will be airing the “Rocky Mountain Rumble” games on Sept. 13 with the Del Oro-Lake City (1 p.m.) and the Colfax-Minico (10 a.m.) games being shown live. While the Del Oro varsity is playing in Idaho, the Golden Eagle’s frosh and JV teams will open the 2008 season at home on Thursday, Sept. 11, when the Black and Gold host Colfax in a 5:30-7:30 p.m. doubleheader. Del Oro’s first home game for the JV and varsity teams will be on Saturday, Sept. 20, when the Golden Eagles entertain Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
