The March showdown with Sacramento High becoming an annual tradition for the Del Oro High girls basketball team. The Golden Eagles are hoping to start a new tradition tonight by sending the Dragons home for the first time. Sacramento has eliminated Del Oro from the playoffs three times in the last four years. The two teams meet again tonight in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III semifinals at Galt High at 5:30 p.m. Del Oro (26-1) bring a more impressive resume into the game, but Sacramento (21-8) is loaded with talent and the Metro Conference champions are battle-tested. Junior guard Brittany Shine is the Dragons’ leader, averaging nearly 15 points per game. Junior forward Erica Barnes is skilled and menacing with her 6-2 height. She also averages 15 points a game. The Eagles’ attack is all about balance with senior guard Katie Pulliam leading the way with her sharp outside shooting. Senior Courtney Nolen is a force on the interior and sophomores Belle Obert and Madeline Campbell are major contributors on both sides of the ball. Del Oro is looking to advance to the title game at Arco Arena for the first time since 1997. Sacramento is seeking its fifth straight trip to Arco.
