Sacramento Kings player arrested for DUI
By: Lauren Gibbs, The Placer Herald
Sacramento Kings player Antoine Wright was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence early Friday morning, according to Rocklin Police. According to Rocklin Police Lt. Lon Milka, a call came in from a concerned citizen reporting a person possibly driving under the influence on Interstate 80 about 1:30 a.m. Nov. 5. Milka said the driver, identified as Wright, took the Rocklin Road exit and stopped at the Tesoro food and gas station, where Rocklin Police arrived and conducted a drunk driving investigation. Milka said that Wright’s blood alcohol level was not available. “A drunk driving investigation occurred and based on the observations by the officers, he was arrested for driving under the influence,” Milka said. Milka said that he speculates that Wright did have a passenger in the car. In a release, 26-year-old Wright was apologetic for the incident. “I’m sorry for having gotten myself into this situation,” he said. “I sincerely apologize to my teammates and coaches, the Sacramento Kings Organization, the Sacramento community and fans and my family.” Wright’s attorney, Bill Portanova, also said in a release that they are working closely with the Rocklin Police Department and fully cooperating with their investigation. Geoff Petrie, Kings president of basketball operations, also released a statement regarding the arrest. “We are extremely disappointed in the situation Antoine has created for himself and the organization,” he said. “There certainly has been no shortage of education and/or resources made available to our players in regard to these types of dangerous behaviors. We will, however, respect his right of due process at this time.” Less than a month ago, media reported that Sacramento Kings part owner George Maloof Jr. was also arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in Las Vegas.
