Defending champion Geoff Roes dropped out of the Western States Endurance Run Saturday at Michigan Bluff. The 35-year-old Roes was well off the pace of then-leaders Kilian Jornet and Jez Bragg and dropped out after reaching the 55-mile mark in 9 hours, 19 minutes. Roes ran a record time of 15 hours, 7 minutes to win the 2010 race. Jornet and Bragg were still leading the race at mile 70 Saturday afternoon. The 100-mile trail race starts in Squaw Valley and ends in Auburn. Visit throughout the night for updates.
