Rocklin resident Scott Bergseng was killed in a single vehicle accident at 4:45 a.m. on Sunday at the Wheatland gate of Beale Air Force Base. He was pronounced dead on the scene by 9th Reconnaissance Wing emergency responders. At the time of his death, Bergseng was a civilian security employee with TW & Company, Inc. as well as reserve technical sergeant with the 940th Security Forces Squadron at Beale. TW & Company is a private security contractor that employs gate security personnel for Beale. At the time of the accident, Bergseng was not on reserve military status. There were no other passengers in the vehicle. No one else was injured in the accident. “While this reservist was not on military status at the time of the accident, the 940th family is distraught at the sudden loss of one of our own,” said Col. Kevin Cavanagh, commander of the 940th Wing. The accident is currently under investigation by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the 9th Security Forces Squadron. No information on what happened was being released, reported officials at the base. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family,” said Lt. Col. Stephen Hoffman, 9th Mission Support Group deputy commander. “This is a terrible tragedy and a difficult time for them. We ask that everyone respect their privacy during this time.”
