For the past three and a half years, I have had the extreme privilege of interviewing U.S. Veterans on behalf of the Veterans History Project of the Library of Congress. Almost all of my 32 interviews were veterans from Loomis and nearby towns. Most of them were veterans of World War II, including four Japanese-Americans from the highly decorated 442nd Regimental Combat Team. What an honor it has been to record these veteran's wartime experiences for their families and their nation.
As I soon will be passing this process to another individual I wanted to thank several entities and individuals without whom none of this would have been possible. They are Martha Garcia, former Loomis News editor; the 2009 Loomis Town Council, who provided the camera and council chambers for the interviews; Loomis Town staff; local veterans groups for providing access to veterans; the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Sacramento County, under whose auspices the Veterans History Project is managed; and Gail Hoberman, co-ordinator for the Retired Seniors group.
Again, thanks to all of you who made this experience possible, particularly our remarkable veterans, and my best wished to all.
Michael B. Neal, Loomis
