Justin Raskin fired an even-par 36 to help Del Oro edge Rocklin 189-196 Tuesday at Turkey Creek in a Sierra Foothill League boys golf contest.

“It was a good match,” Golden Eagles coach Hal Steinback said, “very competitive.”

Following Raskin for Del Oro (8-0, 2-0) were Jahaan Nargussi (37), Josh Sedeno (37), Bobby Mullen (39), Ryan Takayama (40) and Louie Euer (41).

“We were nine-over par for our top five scorers,” Steinback said. “We’ve been preaching that if we continue to break 190, we’ll win most matches. That’s the score you typically need to win in our league.”

Rocklin (0-2 SFL) was led by Blake Abercrombie (38).

“They have a very good team,” Steinback said of Rocklin. “They’ll knock somebody off down the line. They’ll be tough at Whitney Oaks.”

One of the highlights of the day for Del Oro included Mullen responding from a double bogey with two straight birdies.

Next up for the Eagles is Nevada Union Thursday afternoon at Turkey Creek.

“It should be a good match,” Steinback said. “They’ve got a couple of good players. We’ve got to take care of our own course.”
