Everyone is getting in on the act for The Town of Loomis Tree Lighting Celebration from 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Loomis Depot. Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with the Grinch, elves and assorted Loomis characters will be on hand to deliver holiday cheer during what Loomis Mayor Rhonda Morillas calls an “old fashioned” tree lighting and fair. Music, singing, crafts, children’s activities, and free antique tractor-pulled hayrides are offered. Complimentary cookies, apple cider and popcorn will be served. Rumor has it that the great man himself – Santa Claus – will be arriving by horse-drawn carriage. Morrilas said a gingerbread house competition will also be held for both adults and kids with prizes for winners in both categories. “The houses just need to be made of edible items, no cardboard, although we won’t be eating them, we just want the real thing,” Morillas said. Morillas said the houses can be delivered to the Loomis depot from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 3. There will also be a canned food and gift collection to benefit the Loomis Basin Christmas Basket program and the Koinonia Angel Tree.
