Powerboat dump discovered near Auburn being probed by State Parks
State Parks investigators are looking for the owners of two motorboats dumped over a cliff along Foresthill Road and discovered over the weekend.
The boats were spotted Saturday by a passerby about 1 mile east of the Old Foresthill Road intersection with Foresthill Road, Supervising State Parks Ranger Scott Liske said.
Evidence at the scene suggested someone backed a vehicle up beside a cliff and pushed the two boats over, Liske said.
Neither boat had trailers or motors. They were stripped of any identifying marks, including the hull identification number, which had been ground down, he said.
One of the boats is an inboard-outboard, 20-foot Marlin. The other is an 18-foot Sea Ray believed to be about 23 years old, Liske said. The two boats were removed by a hired tow company, which hoisted the vehicles out, he said.
Anyone with potential information on the case is being asked to call the Auburn State Recreation Area office in Auburn at (530)885-4527.
