With two games left in the regular season, the Del Oro Golden Eagles football team will be looking to live up to late Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis’ favorite advice – “Just win baby.”
In short order, and regardless of what Sierra Foothill League leader Granite Bay does from here on out, it’s simple, two wins for Del Oro – this Friday at home versus Nevada Union and Nov. 2 at home against Rocklin – will qualify the Black and Gold for the post season.
Going into Friday’s games – NU at Del Oro, Granite Bay at Woodcreek and Roseville at Rocklin – Granite Bay sits atop the SFL heap with a record of 3-0.
From there, the Grizzlies are followed by Del Oro, Nevada Union and Rocklin, all who sit at 2-1 in the standings. Woodcreek and Roseville bring up the rear, both at 0-3.
Because Del Oro, which is just 3-5 overall on the season, needs to reach five total wins and by doing that grab one of the SFL’s two automatic league berths to the playoffs, the Golden Eagles need to win out.
But both Nevada Union and Rocklin may have something to say about that as both the Miners and Thunder are also still in line for the second SFL playoff spot.
Nevada Union, with a win over Del Oro on Friday, could set up a shot at the SFL title on Nov. 2, in Grass Valley, when the Miners host Granite Bay.
Rocklin, at 4-4, can also win out and reach six wins for an at-large berth or split and end 5-5 to also have a chance at the post season.
