Placer volleyball camp on the way

The Placer High girls volleyball camp is set for June 15-19 at Placer High. The camp is open to girls headed into sixth through ninth grades and will run from 6 to 9 p.m. each day. Placer coach Jennifer Wright, a former UCLA player, will direct the camp, assisted by the Placer team and coaching staff. For a registration form, call (530) 745-5721, ext. 245. Cross country training, camp on the way The popular Thursday night running group will again hit the trail this summer with the first session set for June 18. The summer training sessions will take place each week throughout the summer, beginning at 6 p.m. each Thursday. The training is open to eighth grader through college students. Runs will vary in length from 4 miles to 8 miles and the group will use the trails in the American River Canyon. The training sessions are free and open to all levels of runners. The fundraiser for the Placer cross country team is open to eighth graders through seniors. There will be many guest speakers, including nine-time collegiate all-American Maris Avendano and nutritionalist Mary Coordt. Placer girls basketball camp next week The Placer High girls basketball camp is set for June 15-19 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. each day. The camp, led by coach Tony Camillucci, players and assistant coaches, is open to fourth through eighth grade girls. Wrestling camp to feature U.S. Olympian, NCAA champion American Elite Wrestling Camps will hold its fourth annual camp at Del Oro High June 15-19. Mike Zadick, a 2008 U.S. Olympian and two-time NCAA champion Mark Perry will return as featured technicians for the four-day camp. Programs are designed for wrestlers of all ages and skill levels. The clinic will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 and will cover basketball fundamentals. It will also feature games and contests. Registration is limited to the first 30 students to sign up. Pick-up soccer Sundays at Railhead All adults are invited to play pick-up soccer each Sunday morning at Railhead Park in Auburn. Soccer in the Sierras family tournament rescheduled for July The inaugural Soccer in the Sierras Family Classic is set for July 18-19 at Railhead Park in Auburn. The tournament will feature three divisions of 6-on-6 youth teams and five divisions of adult 7-on-7 teams. The event is designed for parents to play alongside their children in competitive and non-competitive fields. Registration deadline is June 19. First Baptist’s sports camps coming up First Baptist Church of Auburn will host a sports camp June 22-26 at Skyridge School. The camp is for kids going into first through sixth grades and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 each day. Participants will receive training in soccer and basketball as well as biblical training for living. Cost is $20 per child with family discounts for additional children.
