The Placer High baseball team used a big blast from Griffin Quick and an extended rally late to get past Woodcreek 8-6 Tuesday in a non-league showdown in Roseville. Cody Van Riper threw five strong innings for the Hillmen before Anthony Amara came on in the fifth, tossing two shutout innings and earning the win. Quick belted a three-run homer in the third inning. The Hillmen took the lead for good in the sixth inning with a four-run rally after they trailed 6-4. Amara helped himself at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Placer (14-5 overall) steps back into Pioneer Valley League play today at El Dorado. Del Oro 12, Nevada Union 2 at Loomis — The Golden Eagles got back on the winning track after falling at Woodcreek Monday. Del Oro (7-4 Sierra Foothill League) sits in third place in the SFL with seven games remaining.
