Placer County employee arrested on embezzlement charge

A Placer County employee was arrested today on a felony embezzlement charge. Robert Louis Ott Sr., 62, a transportation supervisor with Placer County, was booked into Placer County jail in the afternoon on a charge of embezzling more than $400. Bail was set at $5,000. A Garden Valley resident and 11-year Placer County employee, Ott has been placed on administrative leave from his $57,618-a-year job pending outcome of the sheriff’s investigation, county Public Information Officer Anita Yoder said. The county has estimated losses from the alleged embezzlement at about $1,000, she said. Embezzlement can either be charged as a felony or misdemeanor. Under a felony charge, Ott faces up to three years in prison and a maximum $10,000 fine. If it is reduced to a misdemeanor, he faces a maximum of one year in the county jail and a fine of up to $1,000. – Gus Thomson
