Pairings released for 68th Kendall Arnett

The pairings have been released for next week’s 68th edition of the Kendall Arnett boys basketball tournament as hosted by Placer High in Auburn. Eight teams — all holdovers from last season’s tourney — will toss their hats into the ring for the event, which begins a three-day run on Tuesday, Dec. 28. Five of the eight teams entered in the event have winning records as of last weekend’s games. The first round pairings are as follows: Tuesday, Dec. 28 3:30 p.m. — San Juan (8-2) vs. Bear River (4-6); 5 p.m. — Del Oro (7-2) vs. Del Campo (7-3); 6:30 p.m. — Colfax (5-4) vs. Nevada Union (5-4); 8 p.m. — Placer (4-4) vs. Mira Loma (1-9); Last season Del Oro defeated Bear River, 71-38, to win the varsity edition of the Arnett. In addition, a JV Arnett tournament will also tip off on Dec. 28. First-round pairings are Colfax vs. Nevada Union at 9 a.m.; Del Campo vs. Del Oro at 10:30 a.m.; Mira Loma vs. Bear River at noon; and Placer vs. San Juan at 1:30 p.m. Lady Eagles In Jamboree Del Oro’s Lady Eagles are off and running to an 8-0 start to begin 2010-11 season. Next week, coach Mike Takayama’s cagers will definitely take a step up in competition when the Lady Eagles compete in the Platinum Division of the West Coast Jamboree. Held at several different sites throughout the East Bay, the Jamboree has attracted more than 128 teams this season that will vie in 16 different divisions. Del Oro, which competed in the tournament’s Diamond Division last season, will open tournament play on Monday at 7 p.m. at Deer Valley High in Antioch against Deer Valley. The Wolverines are 4-2 this season and last weekend lost to national power Sacramento High, 62-59, in the finals of the St. Hope Classic. Other top-flight teams entered in the Platinum Division include Long Beach Poly, Bishop O’Dowd, Carondelet, Modesto Christian, Sacramento High, Hanford, Berkeley High and Georgetown, Texas. Clinic of Champions to have Colfax alum Wyoming offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo, a 1998 Colfax High graduate, will be one of several speakers at Max Miller’s Clinic of Champions, a football clinic set for Feb. 25-26 in Reno. Arroyo will speak on “Quarterback Development.” This year’s recipient of the Mike Gebhardt Award, which is awarded at the clinic, is longtime Sacramento area coach Frank Negri. Other scheduled speakers include Nick Holt, defensive coordinator at the University of Washington; Jerry Haflich, head coach at American River College; Terry Eidson, defensive coordinator at De La Salle; Brady Hoke, head coach at San Diego State; and Ernie Cooper, head coach at Granite Bay.
