Our View: Prep football flies in foothills

-A +A
The Auburn Journal and its sister publications have stepped up our prep football coverage because of reader interest and the amazing talent that local high school teams bring to the field. Our sports staffing from Auburn to Folsom, Lincoln, Rocklin, Colfax, Loomis and Roseville is perhaps the strongest team we have ever had, too Last year Placer High School fielded its most successful football team in decades. Lincoln had perhaps its strongest team ever. And Rocklin was a section champion. Folsom was nationally ranked this year and faced powerhouse Grant High School on a game broadcast nationally on ESPN 2 Aug. 28. Del Oro, with one of the finest gridiron programs anywhere, traveled last weekend to Las Vegas to compete against the state of Nevada’s top high school football team. The Auburn Journal and Loomis News were lucky enough to have a reporter, Josh Ansley, travel with the Del Oro team on the bus. It was an amazing experience you can read about in our sports pages. Yes, we are excited about prep football, as are the communities we feel fortunate to serve. We asked our Gold Country Media sports editors what upcoming games they are looking forward to seeing. Following are their responses. Remember you can find all of our prep football coverage on Placersports.com. Each of our individual newspaper websites, including AuburnJournal.com, will have stories and photo galleries online by midnight on game nights. Follow the heroics of our local high school football teams online and in print with Gold Country Media. See ya at the game.
