By Journal Sports Staff Junior striker Kolby Mitnick scored two second-half goals for the Del Oro High boys soccer team on Thursday, leading the Golden Eagles to a 3-2 victory over host Rocklin. Both goals came off assists by senior midfielder Casey Meuser, who also netted Del Oro’s first goal one minute into the game. “He chipped the ball over the defender and put in a left-footed shot from 45 yards out, hitting the upper V (in the right corner),” Eagles coach David Shiro said. “It was an absolutely amazing shot. I don’t think the goalkeeper even knew it was coming.” Senior goalkeeper Alec Lyons made some key saves for Del Oro (5-4-2, 3-1-1 Sierra Foothill League) and was also a vocal leader for the Eagles’ defense. The win moved the Golden Eagles ahead of Rocklin into second place in the SFL standings with one game left in the first half of league play. Forest Lake 2, Sacramento Waldorf 1 at Lake of the Pines — The Falcons gave up a goal in the 17th minute, but junior midfielder Andrew Baker scored twice in the next five minutes to put Forest Lake (3-4-3, 2-1-1 Central Valley Christian League) ahead to stay. Junior forward Randy Van Winkle and sophomore midfielder Michael Sparling each had assists in the victory. FLC outshot Waldorf 20-4, but “in the second half momentum went their way,” Falcons coach Thad Kopec said. “Even though they weren’t getting shots, they seemed to be really pressing us.”
