A skier reported missing Monday at Sugar Bowl resort in Norden was found dead on the slopes Tuesday morning. Sugar Bowl Ski Patrol, working in conjunction with the Placer County Sheriff’s office and Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue, located the body of Oakland resident Jon Hoffman, 58, at approximately 10:45 a.m. below Crow’s Nest Peak in the Strawberry Fields area. The discovery was made in terrain designated as double black diamond or “experts only,” the resort said in a press release. The cause of death is under investigation by Placer County Sheriff’s Office detectives and coroner. “Sugar Bowl would like to extend its deepest condolences to Mr. Hoffman’s family. It would also like to thank and acknowledge the efforts of the Placer Country Sheriff’s Office and Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue for their assistance in conducting the search,” a resort spokesman said in the press release.
