Michelle DeWing to join surgical staff at Oregon hospital

Dr. Michelle DeWing, a 1985 Del Oro High School graduate, has concluded a two-year fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in cardiothoracic surgery. The fellowship involved training in heart, lung, and esophageal surgery, among others. DeWing performed numerous heart and lung transplants, heart bypass surgeries, esophageal surgeries, and other surgical procedures. DeWing will now join the surgical staff at Mercy Medical Center in Roseberg, Ore. There, her primary focus will be on thoracic surgery, including surgery for lung cancer, cancer of the esophagus and chest cavity reconstruction. After graduating as valedictorian from Del Oro, DeWing obtained a BA degree, an MS degree, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Southern California. She performed her intern/residency at the U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento and practiced as a General Surgeon for six years at the Providence Medical Center in Medford, Ore. before taking the fellowship in Iowa. Dr. DeWing is the daughter of former Loomis residents Carl and Carole DeWing, now of Redmond, Ore. —Staff Report
