A Loomis woman was arrested Monday night on charges she poisoned her husband, according to Dena Erwin, Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. Rachel Melody Bettencourt, 53, was booked at the Placer County Jail on charges of willful poisoning and of inflicting corporal injury to a spouse. The male victim, who remains hospitalized, told rescue personnel he became ill after consuming a beverage. On Monday, May 30, at 8:30 p.m., Placer County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Sutter Roseville Medical Center at the request of South Placer Fire District officials. Firefighters had responded to Bettencourt’s Tudsbury Road home and found the situation suspicious, Erwin said. Bettencourt is being held on $100,000 bail. Evidence collected at the home will be analyzed in the continuing investigation. No further information was available as of press time. Staff Report
