A Loomis student is being called noteworthy after making the All State Honor Band for the second year in a row. Aileen Carroll, 13, a Franklin Elementary School eighth-grader, was chosen as one of eight oboe players from throughout the state to perform in the 150-member band. Aileen leaves today, Thursday, Feb. 18, for Fresno where she will join forces with the best seventh- and eighth-grade musicians who all earned spots in the band. Aileen said she’s very excited about the trip. “The best part will be becoming friends with my roommates,” Aileen said. The music all-star said she had to perform and record an audition piece to be considered for the spot in the state band. She said she began playing the oboe after hearing a solo performed during a Sierra College band concert. Aileen said she was given the music to be performed by the state honor band. Once in Fresno, Aileen said she will participate in three rehearsals and a concert on Saturday night.
