After talking recently to area prep football enthusiasts, there’s a crescendo of excitement building up and the belief that the place to be this fall on Friday nights will be Del Oro High’s Eagle Stadium. Thanks to a bevy of returning talent from last season’s CIF Div. III championship squad — not to mention another solid incoming underclass group — Golden Eagle football faithful are chomping at the bit for the 2011 campaign to get underway. And not to let them down, Del Oro head coach Casey Taylor has put together a six-game home schedule that perhaps ranks with the best in the state in regards to competitive equity. Del Oro will begin the season with four straight home games, which include up-and-comer Spanish Springs, of Reno, on Aug. 2, and perennial CIF Southern Section powerhouse Westlake on Sept. 4. The defending CIF Central Section large school champion Clovis West, will meet Del Oro on Sept. 9; and long-time non-league rival, Oak Ridge, on Sept. 16. Oak Ridge is one of the Sac-Joaquin’s Section’s top all-time winning programs. And just for good measure, the Golden Eagles’ two Sierra Foothill League home games will be back-to-back contests on Oct. 21, versus Granite Bay, and on Oct. 28, against Roseville. With that in mind, Taylor is helping promote the Golden Eagles’ Touchdown Club membership, which helps Del Oro fans literally get closer to the action. For the $125 Touchdown Club membership, a fan will get a ticket to every regular season Del Oro game, a VIP pass, which is available at the gate every week, for access to end-zone seating and the hospitality tent, plus a Touchdown Club t-shirt and the chance for a monthly dining gathering with fellow TD Club members and Del Oro coaches. Fans interested in more information on the Touchdown Club can contact Del Oro after Aug. 2 at 652-7243, extension 1303. In addition to the Touchdown Club, a season ticket program at Del Oro is also off to a good start for the 2011 season. Del Oro is accepting seat reservations for the upcoming 2011 football season. The program is part of a format that began in 2008 to help the school offset the increased cost of athletics. The seating is good for all of Del Oro’s six regular season home games. Playoff games are not included. Packages sell for $150, $100 and $50. For more information on the program and to secure reserved seating, contact Stephanie White at 652-7243, extension 1011. Applications can be found on-line on the Del Oro website. The deadline to sign-up is Sept. 3. Showcase Golf “Battle at the Capital” football showcase director Mark Soto is also beating the drum this week for golfers to sign-up for the kick-off golf tournament that will be played on Monday, Aug. 29, at Lincoln Hills. A full day of activities are planned to help get the Del Oro football week off and running. More information can be obtained by contacting Soto at 532-3514. Soto also noted that the “Battle at the Capital” showcase, three days of football set for Sept. 2 to 4, will have three flyovers with a special jump team that the U.S. Army is flying in from Fort Benning, Ga. Called the Silver Wings. This jump team will be jumping from the back of a Coast Guard C130 as it screams over Del Oro’s stadium from 13,500 feet.
