Loomis house fire 'suspicious'
By: Martha Garcia, Loomis News Editor
8,000-square-foot home was under construction
Chief Dave Wheeler, of the Loomis Fire Protection District, said when his crews arrived at the scene of Loomis house fire at about 11:20 p.m. Sunday, March 13, flames were shooting 30 to 40 feet into the air. The house, still under construction, is located on Poppy Ridge Court, north of Rocklin Road. Wheeler said the fire appeared to have started in the garage area, went up into the attic and burned into the second floor of the home he estimated to be about 8,000 square feet in size. It took 2 hours to get the fire under control, Wheeler said, and he had to call a second alarm, bringing the total number of firefighters from area districts on the scene to 28. Wheeler said he and his crews were at the scene until 2:30 p.m. Monday. According to Wheeler, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. “It’s suspicious, but we don’t have any final cause at this time,” Wheeler said.
