Several Loomis area junior high basketball squads competed in last weekend’s Warrior Classic 8th grade boys tournament hosted by Weimar Hills School. The Loomis Grammar Falcons fared well in the event as they posted a 3-1 record and finished with the third-place team trophy. Loomis opened the tournament with a 42-37 win over Union Hill of Grass Valley and then defeated Foresthill 39-34 in overtime behind Kyle Yamada’s 20 points. The Falcons then ran into a tough Weimar Hills team in the semi-finals and after a close first half ended up falling 50-31. Both Yamada and Daniel Grimes scored 10 points each for Loomis. In an exciting third-place game, Loomis outlasted Konocti of Clear Lake, 40-39, in another overtime game. Yamada’s 11 points and nine from Trey Udoffia led the victory. Both Yamada and Grimes were selected to the all-tourney squad. ~ Staff report
