Loomis bridge closures vetted at Caltrans open house
By: Joyia Emard, Loomis News Staff Writer
Caltrans officials held an open house last night, Tuesday, March 30, at the Loomis Depot to share information and receive community input on their Nine Bridge Vertical Clearance Project. According to Joe Horton, project development team member, Caltrans is considering options of lowering the road under the Horseshoe Bar Road/Interstate 80 bridge and utilizing construction techniques that would shorten the closure time. Local emergency responders plan to meet with Caltrans in April to discuss the increased response times that bridge closures would cause. According to Caltrans officials, nine area bridges over Interstate 80 must be raised to meet federal height requirements. The bridges in Loomis and Penryn are located at Brace Road, Horseshoe Bar Road, King Road and Penryn Road. The bridges at Newcastle Road, and near Colfax at Weimar and Magra, also need to be raised. Caltrans plans to lower the road under the railroad bridge near Newcastle Road.
