Free tax preparation through Tax-Aide will be available by appointment only on Monday and Wednesday afternoons at the Loomis Library for federal and state tax preparation. Sponsored by the IRS and AARP, the service is available to all taxpayers with no age restrictions, except those who have farm or rental property income or home offices. Gold Country Wildlife Rescue holds a wildlife volunteer orientation from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, at Canyonview Community Center, in Auburn. The guest speaker is Game Warden Jerry Karnow, speaking on the condition of wildlife in Nevada and Placer counties. Karnow appears on the National Geographic Channel's reality series, "Wild Justice." Newcastle Elementary School will hold a crab feed at 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Blue Goose Event Center. At 9 p.m., live music from Bad Iron will be featured with a $5 cover charge. Dinner tickets are $45 in advance and $50 at the door. The dinner includes crab, shrimp salad, prawn cocktail, pasta and bread. Proceeds benefit the 8th-grade Washington D.C. trip. Shepherd of the Sierra Presbyterian Church holds a weekly Lenten Taizé services at 7:30 p.m., beginning Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13 in the church sanctuary, at 5400 Barton Road.  Taizé is a non-denominational, candlelight, contemplative service of music and quiet. The Sierra College Patrons and Sierra College Aquatics Program present their Crab Feed at 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15, at the Blue Goose Event Center. The meal includes salad, pasta, cracked crab, shrimp, bread, coffee and homemade cookies. There will be a no-host bar, raffle and silent auction. Tickets are $45 and must be purchased by Feb. 8.
