The Contra Dance and dessert potluck is 8-11 p.m., is Saturday, Dec. 15, at Newcastle Portuguese Hall, 690 Taylor Road, in Newcastle.  Beginners are welcome and no partner is necessary, all dances are taught and prompted. Monday

Del Oro High School leadership is holding a student talent show at 6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17 in the Performing Arts Theater. Proceeds will benefit the family of Loomis resident Susan Kidwell, who is now under hospice care for cancer. Tickets are $5 for adults; free for ASB card-holding students; and $3 for children under 12 and non-ASB card students. For more information, call 652-7243.

ONGOING

Placer Elementary School is selling Christmas trees at the Flower Farm to raise money for technology, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays until Dec. 20. Children can have free visits with Santa from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Flower Farm Café. The Flower Farm is located at 9280 Horseshoe Bar Road.

UPCOMING

Sierra Christian Church will have a free, Labyrinth Walk at 4:15 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21, to celebrate the Winter Solstice.  Attendees need to allow 45 minutes, dress warmly and wear good walking shoes, and bring an open mind and heart. The church is located at 5645 Rocklin Road.

A New Hope Animal Foundation will hold a used book sale from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 5 and Sunday, Jan. 6, at 2166 Swetzer Road. Prices are 25 cents to $1.  Donations are welcome. For more information, call 663-1608.

Del Oro alumni are invited to jump in with the current Del Oro men's and women's water polo teams for some friendly games on Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Del Oro pool. The game format will be odd graduation years against even. Current varsity players will be split between the two teams. Tip-off for the women’s game is 11 a.m., followed by the men at 12:30 p.m. The pool will be open for warm-ups 30 minutes before each game time. Admission is $3 for students; $5 for adults; children under five admitted free. Commemorative T-shirts are $10 (please pre-order with your size by 12/28). Barbeque lunch of chicken and tri-tip sliders with all the fixings, drinks and dessert will be available afterward for $15 per person. This event is being organized by the Junior Council of the Friends of the Del Oro Pool and will benefit the new aquatic center. Email lunch reservations by Jan. 2, at Callahan@vfr.net.

The American Legion John A. Stacker Post #775 presents their 20th annual Cioppino Dinner at 6 p.m., Feb. 2, at the Blue Goose Event Center. Tickets are $35 each and raffle tickets will be sold. For tickets, call Fuzzy Jarnagin at 798-8565.
