THURSDAY

Penryn Library’s Final Fling with Treats is from 3:30-5 p.m., Thursday, Aug.15, with a raffle drawing and community get-together. The library is located at 2215 Rippey Road. For more information, call 663-3621.

The Loomis Union School District students start school Thursday, Aug. 15.

SATURDAY

High Hand presents free, live music every weekend from 1-4 p.m., Saturdays; and 12:30-3:30 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, go to www.highhand.com.

SUNDAY

The Loomis Farmers Market is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., through August, in front of the Blue Goose Event Center. Come by and shop for locally grown produce and products. Those with farm or homegrown fruit, vegetables or products may receive a free vendor booth by calling 652-8341.

UPCOMING

Come to a Del Oro High School football Kick-off Rally at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23 at the Loomis Train Depot. The marching band and cheerleaders will perform and football players will be introduced.

Placer High School’s Classes of the 1940s holds a reunion at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 24 at Auburn Recreation Park. The cost is $20. For reservation forms, call Ruth Costa at (530) 878-0811.

High Hand will hold A Tomato Festival, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24 at Maple Rock Gardens. The event includes visiting the 17-acre landscaped garden, farmers market, tomato growing classes, tomato inspired foods and Farmer Fred. Auditions for McLaughlin Theatre Company’s production of “Annie Jr.” begin in late August and continue into September. August auditions are from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 29 and Friday, Aug. 30, at McLaughlin Studios, 3470 Swetzer Road. For more information, call 652-6377.

The Honor Bowl, formally known as Battle For Veterans, is Friday, Aug. 30 at Del Oro High School. The event begins with the Battle of the Badges at 5 p.m., when the Placer County Sheriff’s team plays the Nevada County Sheriffs. At 7:30 p.m., Del Oro takes on the Logan Colts. Funds raised benefit military veterans.

A used book sale will be held from 8 a.m. – noon,  Sept. 7 and 8 at 2166 Swetzer Road. The sale benefits Grass Valley's Scooter's Pals www.scooterspals.org   Prices are 25 cents to $1, Sunday all 1/2-price.  Donations welcome.Call 663-1608 for more information

The Del Oro Class of 1973 is having a multi-class reunion (1970-1976) on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Blue Goose in Loomis. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a no host bar.  Café Zorro will be serving finger foods, and Allen Entertainment will be providing music.  The cost is $40 per person or $75 per couple. “Music in the Meadow,” Placer Nature Center’s  22nd birthday party and community-gathering, is from 1-4 p.m., Saturday Oct. 5 at 3700 Christian Valley Road in Auburn.   A well-known foothill band, Proxy Moon, will deliver a lyrical blend of jazz, folk, and blues in a  private, outdoor venue. Admission includes food, entertainment and nature walks with area birders, botanists and conservationists. A no-host bar is sponsored by Sierra Nevada Brewery.  Tickets are  $25 at the door, online or at locations throughout Placer County.  For additional information call (530) 878-6053.
