Friends of the Loomis Library will hold a used book sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26; and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Loomis Library.
Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Del Oro High School is Friday, Oct. 26. A rally will promote awareness on all types of cancers, there will be T-shirt sales, donation boxes, and activities. At the Friday night football game, attendees are encouraged to wear pink, and at half time cancer survivors and their families are invited to the end zone for cake and celebration. It’s Pumpkinpalooza at the Penryn Library. Bring in a painted or embellished pumpkin (no carved allowed) based on a favorite picture book or literary character until Oct. 27. Pumpkins will be displayed around the library until the Great Pumpkin Party on Oct. 30. Pumpkin submissions will be judged and prizes awarded for the best entries in each age group.
Penryn Library’s Great Pumpkin Party is from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30. Drink “pumpkin” juice, try pumpkin-flavored treats, play special pumpkin games, do a pumpkin craft, and check out the winning entries for Pumpkinpalooza. Come take a peek inside the "World's Smallest Mountain Range--The Sutter Buttes" with local author Mike Hubbartt. His 45-minute slide show offered by the Middle Mountain Foundation is an up-close historic tour of this solitary, mysterious mountain in the middle of Sacramento Valley near Yuba City. Boy Scouts of America Loomis Troop 12 celebrates its 90th anniversary with a dinner at 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov.1, at the Veterans Memorial Hall. The dinner is hosted by Sheriff Ed Bonner, a Troop 12 Eagle Scout, and Eagle Scout Ed Horton will be honored. The Cowpoke Fall Gathering kick off is at 5:30 p.m., Thursday Nov. 8, at the Red Horse Barn, at Newcastle Wedding Gardens. The Cowpoke Fall Gathering shows are at 6:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10, at the Blue Goose Event Center. First eight row seating tickets are $45, general seating is $35. Tickets for the 1:30 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Nov. 10 are $35 for the first eight rows, and $35 for general seating. A Del Oro High School All Class Reunion is from 6:30 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Rocklin Park Hotel. The event is open to all alumni and Golden Eagle supporters. The cost is $25 per person and includes food, entertainment and a drink ticket. Proceeds benefit the new Del Oro Aquatic Center. Tickets go on sale at football games and in the Del Oro office.
MandaRUN 2012 is Sunday, Nov. 18 and features a half marathon, 10K and 5K Run. The half marathon starts at 8 a.m. at the Auburn Fairgrounds and ends in downtown Loomis. The 5K and 10K start at 9 a.m., in downtown Loomis. Mail-in must be postmarked by Nov. 10; online registration closes at 3 p.m., on Nov. 17. Same day registration for the 5K and 10K begins at 7:30 a.m. on race day. The races are presented by the Loomis Basin Education Foundation and benefit the students of the Loomis Union School District. The Loomis Basin Holiday Home Tour is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8 and benefits the Loomis Basin Education Foundation and the students of the Loomis Union School District. View local homes all decked out for the holidays and enjoy a $15 buffet lunch that includes a sandwich bar, salads, soups, dessert and beverages. A free craft faire and art show is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at H. Clarke Powers Elementary School. Tour tickets are $25 each in advance and $30 on tour day.
