Friday The Penryn Parent Teacher Club presents Penryn Cowboy Dinner and Big Bucks Saloon Night from 6 to 11 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3, at the Blue Goose Event Center. The event includes a catered dinner, saloon games, live auction and a raffle. Tickets are $35 if purchased in advance, and $40 after Jan. 27. Tickets are available at Penryn Elementary School. Second Blessings thrift shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 2; Friday, Feb 3; and Saturday, Feb. 4, at Loomis Congregational Church, 6440 King Rd. Donated items, except large furniture, will also be accepted at that time. Saturday The South Placer Republican Women Federated luncheon is at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, at Sierra View Country Club, 105 Alta Vista Ave., in Roseville. Gold Country Wildlife Rescue, which has an intake facility in Loomis, will hold an orientation and training for new volunteers from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4 at Canyonview Community Center in Auburn. American Legion – John A. Stacker Post 775 presents the 19th annual Cioppino Dinner at 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Blue Goose Fruit Shed Event Center. Sunday Quilted Blessings has a quilting workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sun., Feb. 5, at the Loomis Basin Congregational United Church of Christ, 6440 King Rd. All skill levels will make simple quilts for those less fortunate. Fabric is provided. Bring a sewing machine, although one can be provided with advance notice. Upcoming Tax-Aide is scheduling appointments now for free federal and state tax preparation on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons in February at the Loomis Library. The service is sponsored by the IRS and AARP and is available to all taxpayers, regardless of age, excluding those who have farm or rental property income or home offices. Appointments must be reserved in advance by calling 652-5429. Keep The Beat, a spaghetti dinner benefit for Tanner Keller who is awaiting a heart transplant, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Blue Goose Event Center. Tickets are $8 each, or $30 per family. Dr. Patricia Backhaus, trumpet and Valerie Floeter, keyboards will present a concert at 1 p.m., Sunday, February 12, at Hope Lutheran Church, 7117 Hope Way, in Penryn. Admission is free. Teams and volunteers are needed for the Loomis American Cancer Society Relay For Life on May 19 and 20, at the Del Oro High School track. Attend a planning meeting at 6 p.m., for the committee, or 7 p.m. for teams, Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Loomis Roundtable Pizza.
