50 Years Ago October 27, 1961 Del Oro freshman class officers Patti Takahashi, Yvonne Carothers, and Carla Gaughenbaugh were in charge of a car wash fundraiser. Putting in more drain tiles to dry up wet areas on their ranches were Bill Domen and Bill Tudsbury. Student body officers at Placer School were Randy Hansen, Glen Osburn, Dee Makimoto, Karen Hansen, Terry Tudsbury, Dale Davis and Kathy Leak. Marie Rasmussen chaired a benefit ham smorgasbord dinner sponsored by Friends of the Free Methodist Church of Loomis, located at Laird and Webb Streets. Mrs. Ada Hansen was the honored guest at a birthday party. In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hansen with sons Rickey and Randy; and Mr James Hansen with daughters Nicki and Karen. Carol-Len Smith and Beth Cambbell, of Loomis, were officers of the Phi Eta Epsilon home economics club at Sierra College. For sale in the heart of Loomis, a 165 X 384 lot for $5,250. Sam Cagle, of Loomis Grammar School, won 1st place for Large Transit Bus at the Bus Rodeo, in Lincoln. 25 Years Ago October 30, 1986 The three oldest Placer Issei pioneers honored during the annual JACL dinner were Charles Nitta, Schoichi Hada, and Kaneichi Mihara. Seeking the crown for the Del Oro Homecoming Queen were Suzanne Bowers, Julie Reader and Beth Perry. Candidates for King were Keith Powers, Brent Collins, and Mark Kelly. Band members Linda Meissen, Chris Thorsen, Julie Raukko displayed trophies the Golden Eagle Band earned at the Foothill Band Review in Pleasanton. Rhonda Gresko and Jean Stoddard helped prepare for the 5th Annual LDS Holiday Boutique. Donna Smith and Jill Raukko were co-chairs of the Annual Del Oro Band Supporters Chow Mein Dinner. Del Oro junior Stephanie Doub assisted students in Nancy DeSmet’s kindergarten class with their scarecrow in a Penryn School contest. Voters would select three town council members for the following field of candidates: Roy Hebard, Jr., Dick Harris, Richard Howard, Jr., Dr. Greg Fellers, John Ireland, and Walt Scherer. 10 Years Ago November 1, 2001 Carleen Foley and Nadine Glenn, Placer School kindergarten teachers, got their students in the spirit as they constructed class scarecrows. Chuck Pittman and Peggy Bonner were two of the interested visitors at the Loomis Visions Forum. Chuck, a WWII veteran, retired as a civilian employee for the Air Force. Peggy was a retired school teacher and matriarch of the Bonner family. Two key players, Mike Sjolie and Jonathan Polly, were back in action following injuries and helped Del Oro defeat highly ranked Granite Bay 27-14. Gabe Chandler, Blake Robinson, Jacob Duncan, Dave Warner and Chad Mowry were among those instrumental in the win. Del Oro student Matthew Trigger’s senior project was to install lights at the school’s soccer fields. The Lady Falcons of Loomis School won the 8th grade SFL Basketball Tournament. The players were Brittany Rains, Jessie Westlake, Kathryn Lohr, Jenna Bailey, Natalie Labourdette, Brittany Henks, Tara Green, Mia Eng, and Kelley Marshall. The coaches were Steve Evans, Cindy Olmstead, and Rick Judd. Initially believing a mountain lion was involved, it was later determined that coyotes were killing goats on property along No Name Lane behind Clarke Powers School.
