50 YEARS AGO (Nov. 25, 1960 Issue) New directors for the Aero Chamber of Commerce were Frank Aguilar of Penryn, Howard Scribner of Rocklin, and Lloyd Dudley and Francis Holsclaw of Loomis. As a moneymaking project, the Loomis Union Grammar School unit of the Parent Teacher Association planned to make fruitcake for sale for the holidays. Members of newly organized Student Council at the new Placer Elementary School were Dick Catlin, Nancy Nitta, Joyce White, Randy Hansen, Ronald Kawahata and Terry Tudsbury. Among Loomis residents appearing in the Roseville City Production of “Teahouse of the August Moon” were Frank Nimura, Homer Takahashi, Jeanne Nimura, Patty Takahashi and Irene Takemoto. Celebrating birthdays were Pamela Taylor, 7; and Cathleen Ross, 5. 25 YEARS AGO (Nov. 28, 1985 Issue) Services were held for John "Jack" Porter Drummond, 66, a 17-year resident of Loomis. He was a retired Air Force chief warrant officer. Del Oro Golden Eagle Band musicians making Honor Band were Mike Hilty, Linda Meissen, Dan Hull, Dyne Eifertsen, Jill Burnside, Tippi Flores, Bob Michaels, Don Decker, Lyrad Riley, Jerry Unruh, Julie Raukko, Jason Lutz and Kim Field. The 2nd Annual Steve Williams Memorial Run honored the late Del Oro coach. Completing a one-mile course was Steve's daughter Lisa along with his mother Bertha Eastman. The top woman finisher in the mile was Jill Killinger. The five-miler was won by Tom Smith who’s his wife, Patty, took the women's event. Larry Ortiz operated Penryn Pottery from the home he designed and built. Larry was not only a talented potter but also a musician, farmer, wine maker and cultivator of bonsai trees. Carrie Unruh was among the Placer School students enjoying Mrs. Jane Cox's new math computer program. Local physicians included Dr. Louis Hertz, Dr. Douglas Luke, Dr. Gary Gramm and Dr. Victor Sucheski. 10 YEARS AGO (Nov. 30, 2000 Issue) Loomis School students in Kristine Sohrakoff's class were sensational in the production of "Fiddler on the Roof." Among the cast were Jesse Katterhorn, Nicole Siminski, Kara Stephens, Jena Bailey, Sunny Patterson, Dylan Mayhew, and Natalie LaBourdette. "Bandit," the Dowd family's dog, helped Melanie Stitt pick out a Christmas tree at the Family Tree Farm in Loomis. Millie Rasmussen, working the counter at Main Drug, was excited to serve coffee to Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus (alias John and Mibel Lee). Jan Clark led the Loomis Basin Chamber of Commerce Kazoo Band in the Day Before Thanksgiving Day Parade. Diana Madoshi was drumming up business for the Loomis Congregational Church's Christmas Breakfast. Listening to her "pitch" were Jack Patterson and Don Hoag at the soda fountain at Main Drug. A new gymnasium for the Placer County Sheriff's Dept. was dedicated in memory of former Deputy Rick Meredith. He was a widely respected deputy who worked from 1968 to 1994. Doupnik Mfg. of Loomis donated the gym building.
