50 YEARS AGO (Jan. 15, 1960 Issue) Penrhyn Lodge held their installation ceremonies with Frank Nute of Loomis being installed as Master. B.C. Jull conducted the ceremonies, assisted by Clifford Hayes, installing chaplain, and Jonelle Hansen, installing organist. Nute’s corps of officers were Ed Leak, senior warden; Gene Holley, junior warden; Lloyd Owen, treasurer; Bob Tudsbury, secretary; Harvey Carlisle, chaplain; Francis Nicholas, senior deacon; Louis Lopez, junior deacon; Bill Tudsbury, marshal; Al Schweigert, senior steward; Leonard Evans, junior steward; and Ralph Narramore, tiler. 25 YEARS AGO (Jan. 17, 1985 Issue) Nine Del Oro High School students were selected to participate in the Northern California Band. Selected were David Brockman, Sharon Bitner, Dan Deckard, Tippi Flores, Walter Heaton, Jon Howard, Lyn Huntington, Heather Laws and Julie Roukko. They were to perform at California State University, Chico in the honor band. Del Oro junior Debbie Torres was the winner of the club-level Loomis Lions Club speakng contest. Also competing at the club level were Andrea Andrews, a freshman, and Rick Gonsalves, a junior. Del Oro faculty member Jack Sanchez was coach for the students in the competition. 10 YEARS AGO (Jan. 13, 2000 Issue) Jack Yokote was remembered at a memorial service held at the First United Methodist Church of Loomis. The service reflected Jack’s dedication to Scouting for 70 years. Honoring Jack were former Boy Scouts who served under his leadership. They included Ed Horton, Gordon Takemoto, Ed McFarland and Sheriff Ed Bonner. Placer Elementary students organized an “Adopt-A-Family” program for 11 local families. Student Council advisor Colleen Slattery was overwhelmed by the students’ eagerness to participate. They used their creativity to fill the baskets with items matched to their adopted family’s needs. Strong defense helped the Del Oro girls basketball team defeat Roseville 72-40 and Bear River 40-32 to start the season. Leading the scoring were Niki Fallon, Christy Harris, Megan Griffith, Erin Halverson, Vanessa Marconi, Candis Regan, Holly Montague, Courtney Schaefer and Julia Dunning. The Del Oro wrestling team had a 25-match winning streak after defeating Woodcreek and Rocklin. Among the winners were Tyler Elimas, Brandon Banks, Zach Sanchez and Matt McLemore. Lee Duncan, Rod Varley, and Fred Montero helped prepare for the Penrhyn Gold Hill Lodge second annual crab feed.
